Cornwall’s leading heating and electrical company Blue Flame (Cornwall) Ltd has committed to reducing its carbon footprint by electrifying more than a third of its vehicle fleet. The company has replaced 20 of its 55 diesel vans with 100% electric vehicles, significantly cutting emissions. The transition is expected to result in annual carbon savings of approximately 60 tonnes of CO2, depending on fuel and grid conditions.
In 2023 alone, Blue Flame engineers covered over 600,000 miles across Cornwall supporting their customers with installation, maintenance and repairs. The switch to electric vans will reduce diesel miles by 200,000 annually, marking a major step towards a more sustainable operation.
Company Director Grant Doe explains, “Making this commitment is something we feel passionately about. As a proud Cornish business, we were determined to reduce our impact where we could. It didn’t feel right to continue using diesel vans when the technology and performance of electric vehicles are now readily available.
“Cornwall’s geography can make operations challenging, so installing EV chargers at our employees’ homes was crucial to making this transition work and most importantly maintaining the same level of service, day or night, for our customers.
“As well as ensuring our new electric fleet reflect our professional images, we also needed the vans to be thoughtfully organised with suitable racking, ensuring parts and equipment are easily visible and accessible. We chose to work with Cornish company Bott Ltd, feeling assured we were working with a globally recognised brand right here in Cornwall. “
“As we move forward, our long-term goal is to transition our entire vehicle fleet to 100% electric vehicles in the coming years. This has been a significant investment, but one we believe is essential.”
The 20 newly-branded Blue Flame electric vehicles are on the road now.
