The Cornwall AONB was designated in 1959 under the National Parks Act. AONB designation seeks to protect and enhance the landscape recognising the needs of the local community and economy. This protection includes that of flora, fauna and geology as well as landscape features and conservation of important archaeological and architectural elements. The Cornwall AONB Partnership is made up of national government and local authority representatives together with voluntary organisations, landowners and managers and communities. The Cornwall AONB is a single nationally protected area comprising of twelve separate parts that include Cornwall's finest stretches of coast, moorland, farmland, rivers and estuaries.
