Place of Work Krowji, Redruth

Reports to CEO

Application Deadline Midday on Wednesday 30th October 2024

More likely to be found windswept in wellies at a remote Cornish hillfort than in business suits, the staff at Cornwall Heritage Trust are a fun-loving but passionate team. We are looking for someone who shares our commitment and enthusiasm for Cornwall’s heritage and who can help to move the Trust forwards in its drive for growth, resilience and financial sustainability.

2024 heralds the 40th anniversary of the charity, which is enjoying an exciting period of growth and evolution. The management of historic sites is a key charitable objective and, with sixteen heritage sites in our care, it is also a huge honour and responsibility to look after these special places which form some of Cornwall’s most beautiful landscapes and quirkiest gems.

This new role will focus on the development of all of the properties owned or managed by Cornwall Heritage Trust. This will include formulation and implementation of a robust sites management strategy across our whole portfolio and progressing work already undertaken to create a sites acquisition strategy.

Overseeing the acquisition of new historic sites and responsibility for related community consultation, formulation of management plans and ensuring seamless integration to our organisation will also be important.

The successful applicant will liaise with new and existing external partners to identify development opportunities and mutually beneficial programmes and projects.

Reporting directly to the CEO, this role is perfect for someone with a passion for the great outdoors and the desire to really make a difference. Just like the sites themselves, no two days are the same!

This role has been made possible by funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Oversight of the sites owned and/or managed by CHT
  • Assisting with the successful delivery of the requirements of the strategic plan
  • Ensuring that the sites are managed within the regulations set out by the relevant statutory bodies
  • Formulation of management plans for each site, ensuring that their unique archaeological and ecological needs are balanced
  • Organising staffing and ensuring sufficient equipment etc is available
  • Formulation of the wider sites strategy; this will include acquisition, management, income generation, capital works plans and future resource requirements (staff, facilities and equipment) needed to manage the sites going forwards and prepare for expansion
  • Line management of the Heritage Sites Officer and sites management team
  • Development and management of sites-based initiatives and projects to boost income generation
  • Ensuring volunteers receive a safe, enjoyable and rewarding experience whilst helping to manage our sites
  • Responsibility for compliance with health and safety procedures and risk assessments
  • Ensuring timely collection of sites income
  • Liaison with key partners e.g. English Heritage, Historic England, Natural England etc
  • Liaison with trustees and reporting to Board meetings as required
  • Contributing to the Senior Leadership Team

(Please note: this does not represent a comprehensive list of the responsibilities which may vary according to the needs of the Trust)

General Responsibilities

We are a small and busy team and it is important that everyone is prepared to be hands-on. This may involve:

  • Answering the telephone, dealing with visitors to the office and undertaking general administrative tasks where required – at busy times everyone pitches-in!
  • Some evening and weekend working to help at events or activities; plenty of notice is given
  • Providing support to colleagues during busy times

Key Accountabilities

  • Reporting to the CEO
  • Line management of the Heritage Sites Officer and sites management team
