So, why I am running my first marathon and for The Fishermen’s Mission charity? It is because I believe in what they do for the fishing communities around the UK like the one I live in and support.
Do we ever think about how our fish is caught and who catches our fish? Cornwall has some of the best fishing in the world, with a fantastic variety of different species. Self-employed fishermen go out to catch this amazing produce in turbulent seas, putting their lives at risk to make a living. Fishing is extremely hard manual work, and when they go out, there can be little or no catch. Here’s, a scary fact, 1 in 16 career fisherman lose their life at sea. There are also life changing injuries, and times when severe storms don’t allow the fisherman to go out and earn a living. The financial hardship during these times takes its toll on mental health and families.
The Fishermen’s Mission charity are active in every port and cove in the UK, getting to know fishing families and lending practical, and emotional assistance to all that need help. They support the lonely, those affected by mental health struggles, and in times of financial hardship and grief. They build relationships within the fishing communities and are on hand when the storms at sea invade lives on land.
The Fishermen’s Mission is a life line to the fishing community. Please help me to raise what we can for people that care.
Follow me on my journey as I overcome a foot injury to being marathon ready in a few months.
