Malindi Myers, the Bank of England Agent for the South West, is looking forward to hearing how the current business, financial and economic conditions are impacting your business’s performance. Malindi will give a 5-10 minute update on the Bank’s view of the economy as well as a bit of what she and Jamie pick up from across the SW economy. She’ll offer up 3-4 areas that the Bank are particularly interested in hearing about, and then we’ll go round the table inviting contributions on how your business is doing and what the challenges and opportunities are for your business.
The areas that the Monetary Policy Committee are focussed on at the moment are the labour market, pay or wage pressures, ‘pass-through’ of costs into pricing and how that is affecting margins, and the outlook for demand and activity. With services inflation being rather ‘sticky’, there is some focus on that, and Malindi would be interested to hear your experiences of that too. Malindi will also be happy to take questions.
These roundtable discussions tend to be popular with business attendees because it gives them a chance to: i) step back from the day to day and hear what is going on in the wider economy, ii) hear from other businesses what they are finding challenging (which can often be very similar across different kinds of businesses!), and iii) to ask Malindi questions about the Bank’s view on the economy, inflation and interest rates. We look forward to seeing you.
